1853 NGC MS-65 $1 Liberty Head Gold Coin - Type I
The US Mint issued $1 Liberty Head Gold Coins from 1849 to 1854 as the nation’s official circulating dollar coin. They featured James Longacre’s design and .0483 Troy oz of gold.
The $1 Liberty Head underwent three design variations during its production. The Type I design, produced for just six years, was succeeded by the Indian Princess design. Due to their limited mintage, well-preserved Type I coins are rare and highly prized in the numismatic market.
SD Bullion offers 1853 $1 Liberty Head Gold Coins of Type I, graded as MS-65 by NGC.

An NGC MS-65 Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter, apart from sovereign mints.
An MS-65 coin means that the analyzed coin has the same format as a business coin but still displays high-quality luster despite its aged mintage. Minor contact marks and scatters may be noticeable, but the coin's overall quality is above average.
