The Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin serves as a symbol of America’s economic strength and historical legacy.

Originally released as the official $20 gold piece, it circulated between 1849 and 1907 and contains 0.9675 troy oz of gold. Its design, featuring a striking image of Lady Liberty and a bald eagle, was created by James B. Longacre, the fourth Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a tiara engraved with the word "LIBERTY." It is surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars representing the original Thirteen Colonies and the year of mintage.

On the reverse, the Heraldic Eagle has spread wings, clutching arrows in its talons, the national shield on its chest, and the banner "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. 

It also features the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," the coin's face value of "TWENTY D," and the “O” mint mark from the New Orleans mint.
