The Design
On the obverse, Lady Liberty’s effigy is portrayed with a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY.” The thirteen stars encircling her depiction represent the Thirteen Original Colonies, with the year of mintage engraved at the bottom rim.
The Heraldic Eagle is displayed on the reverse, with the national shield stamped on its chest, olive branches and arrows in its talons, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on a banner above its head.
It also contains the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “FIVE D.”, which refer to the coin’s face value, and the “O” mint mark referring to the New Orleans Mint.
An NGC MS-60 Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) is an independent third-party service that appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale. This scale ranks coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.
An MS-60 coin indicates that the analyzed coin has the same format as a business coin, displays mint luster, and shows no signs of wear. However, there is a heavy concentration of hairlines, large areas of scuff marks, and poor eye appeal.
