Paying tribute to over two centuries of guaranteed Freedom Rights, in 2021, the US Mint presented the First Amendment to the United States Constitution Platinum Proof Coin Series.

This series is a commemorative edition that strikes annual platinum proof coins showcasing one of the five freedoms ensured by the First Amendment. The 2024 edition features the Right of Assembly and is the fourth strike of the series.

These Proof platinum coins contain 1 Troy oz of 99.95% pure platinum bullion and are legal tender. In addition, they are among those manufactured on the first day of production in the West Point Mint, bearing the “W” mint mark.

The Design

Instead of Lady Liberty, the standard design element of American Eagle coins, the obverse design of these Platinum Eagles uses the lifecycle of the oak tree to represent the development of freedom as the nation evolves concomitantly.

The 2024 coin showcases several types of oak leaves assembled, symbolizing the Right of Assembly. The inscriptions on this side are “WITH THE RIGHT TO ASSEMBLE LIBERTY SPREADS,” the two mottos “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “2024.” 

The reverse design is a pattern to all coins of the series and features a flying Bald Eagle carrying an olive branch in its talons. The engravings that complete the image are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$100,” “1 OZ.,” and “.9995 PLATINUM,” along with the “W” mintmark from the West Point branch.

PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin not intended for widespread circulation but rather for collection purposes. Proof coins exhibit mirror-like surfaces and frosted design elements. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
