Coin Details
Jamaica used to be a British colony in 1950. So, the production of its currency, the pounds sterling, would be in charge of the Royal Mint.
These Half Penny coins, in particular, were produced from 1950 to 1969 and used for widespread circulation. They were made of nickel brass alloy, had smooth edges, were 22.5mm in diameter, and displayed the Ruler of the British Commonwealth on the obverse design.
Those produced between 1950 and 1952 would depict the effigy of the Crowned King George VI facing left on the obverse side. And those minted after that, a right-profile bust of a crowned young Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse design features the Coat of Arms of Jamaica, accompanied by the coin’s face value and year of issuance.
