The Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins were the official 20-dollar circulating coin in the US from 1850 to 1907. They famously portray James B. Longacre’s design, one of the most beloved depictions of Lady Liberty.

This privately minted gold round pays tribute to this important chapter in American coinage history. It weighs 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine gold and reproduces the original design of the Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins.

The Design

The obverse showcases James B. Longacre’s Lady Liberty design. In the image, she has a left profile bust enhanced by a tiara engraved with the word “LIBERTY.” Liberty’s portrait is surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars, referring to the Thirteen Original Colonies. The fake year of mintage of 1865 is at the bottom rim.

The reverse displays a slightly altered version of Longacre’s original design. It features a Heraldic Eagle at the center. It grasps arrows and olive branches in its talons. The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is inscribed on the sides of the eagle. Above its head is the actual mint year, followed by a banner with the motto “OUR TRUST IS IN GOD.”

The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” surround the outer rim on top, and the denomination “DOUBLE EAGLE” on the bottom.

The signature of James B. Longacre is beneath the Heraldic Eagle’s depiction.

According to NGC - Numismatic Guarantee Company, GEM Proof equals PF-65 or higher. Upon grading, the original distributor may prefer the term "GEM Proof" as opposed to receiving a numerical grade.

“Proof” refers to samples with an exceptional background luster. 65 corresponds to a high-quality mirror surface with a few noticeable hairline scratches.
