NGC PF-70 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin - Random Year

American Silver Eagles are the world’s best-selling silver coins. Since the U.S. Mint launched the American Eagle Program, these coins have become highly popular with investors and collectors.

Proof American Silver Eagles stand out from the bullion versions due to their remarkable brilliance, created through a unique preparation of the dies and planchets, which gives them polished backgrounds and frosted design elements.

Today, SD Bullion offers 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coins graded as PF-70 by NGC. However, mintage and design may vary depending on our inventory availability during shipping.

Coin Highlights

  • Appraised, encapsulated, and graded as PF-70 coins by NGC;

  • Proof Coins;

  • Produced by the US Mint;

  • Contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver;

  • Holds a USD 1 face value and legal tender status;

  • The obverse displays Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty design;

  • The reverse may showcase the original or the new Eagle design;

  • Of varied mintages;

The Obverse Design

The obverse, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, initially stamped the 1917 Half-Dollar coin, which the American Eagle Program rescued in 1986.

The design features Lady Liberty walking toward the sun's rays with the American flag draped on her shoulder, oak branches on her left arm, and a stretched right arm for a welcome sign.

It also contains the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.

The Original Reverse Design

The first reverse was designed by the US Chief Engraver John Mercanti.

It depicts a heraldic eagle with wings outstretched and a shield adorned with stars across its chest. It holds a banner in its beak inscribed with "E Pluribus Unum" and grasps arrows and olive branches in its talons. Above the eagle, thirteen stars symbolize the original colonies.

It is also inscribed with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

The New Reverse Design

Emily Damstra designed a new reverse design in 2021 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program.

The design depicts the Bald Eagle perching on a branch with its open wings.

The accompanying inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER,” referring to the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, separated by stars and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

An NGC PF-70 Coin

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company), which operates independently of sovereign mints, appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

The initials PF stand for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. It exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. Grade 70 is attributed to flawless coins.
