One of the fractions included in the collection is the 1/4 oz Gold Eagle, in bullion and in proof versions. US Gold Eagles are struck from 22-carat gold (.9167 fineness). Their alloy contains 3% silver and 5.33% copper for added durability. Despite the alloy, they contain a full quarter ounce of pure gold.

The Obverse Design

The obverse design is a reproduction of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ design, which was used on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin from 1907 to 1933.

It is a symbol of the nation's journey toward progress, peace, and enlightenment as it portrays Lady Liberty striding forward, holding a torch and an olive branch. It also features the word "LIBERTY," the Capitol Building, and the coin’s mintage year.

Reverse Design Type 1

Type 1 refers to Miley Busiek's debuting reverse design, in which a female eagle nurtures her hatchling under her wing while the male stands guard on their nest. 

It includes the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” as well as the coin’s information of weight, metal content, and face value, which reads “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD—10 DOLLARS.”

Reverse Design Type 2

Type 2 corresponds to the 2021 design update, created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program. 

The image, designed by Jennie Norris, depicts the majestic bald eagle in a close-up with a deep gaze, highlighted hooked beak, and the same inscriptions as the original design.

They read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s information about weight, metal content, and face value, which reads “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD—10 DOLLARS.”
