2024-W NGC PF-70 UC First Day of Issue 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle - Exclusive Ronald Reagan Label

American Gold Eagles are the official gold coins of the United States. Each is crafted from 22k gold, holds legal tender status, and bears patriotic designs.

The US Mint produces Proof Gold Eagles for collectors, available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights.

This specific coin is a 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle, distinguished by the "W" mint mark denoting its origin from the West Point Mint.

Both the Liberty Coin Act of 1985 and the Bullion Coin Act of 1985, enacted under President Ronald Reagan's administration, laid the foundation for the American Eagle Coin series. President Reagan, a staunch advocate of coin collecting and bullion investment, was also the one who proclaimed the week of April 17 as "National Coin Week."

Today, SD Bullion proudly offers the 2024 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins from the very first day of issue in the US Mint. Graded as perfect PF-70 UC by NGC. Each coin is encased with our exclusive Ronald Reagan label, featuring his facsimile signature and his portrait overlaying the Oval Office.

  • The Bald Eagle is on the reverse.

The Design

The obverse, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features Lady Liberty marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing progress, light, and peace.

It also contains the word “LIBERTY,” stars representing the national states, the year of issuance, the US Capitol Building, and the “W” mint mark.

The reverse design, created by Jennie Norris, showcases the Bald Eagle in a left-profile close-up with a hooked beak and a staring gaze.

The coin’s essential information is engraved as “25 DOLLARS” for the face value and “1/2 OZ FINE GOLD” for weight and metal content. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” complete the image.

An NGC PF-70 UC First Day of Issue Coin

Internationally recognized coin grading services, like NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company, use the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, as a parameter to appraise and grade coins.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day it was made publicly available.

PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. The expression “UCAM” or Ultra Cameo means this contrast is deeper and more intense than in other proof coins.

Grade 70 is attributed to coins that present no visible marks.
