NGC/PCGS MS-65+ $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin - Random Year
The U.S. Mint introduced the St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins in 1907, during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt, making this coin over 80 years old.
Like many other Pre-1933 Gold Coins, the St. Gaudens Double Eagle was produced for broad circulation. Each coin contained .9675 oz of gold, held legal tender status, and carried a $20 denomination.
However, due to the economic downturn of the 1930s, only a limited number of these coins survived, as many were confiscated or melted down for their gold content amid the surge in gold prices.
Today, SD Bullion offers $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins of varied mintages, graded as MS-65+, sealed in either an NGC or PCGS randomly selected from our stocks according to our availability.

The Design
The obverse, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features Liberty, the feminine personification of the nation. In the artistry, she walks forward as a symbol of a march to the future. The torch she carries means enlightenment, and the olive branch, peace.
The Capitol Building is discreetly imprinted on the lower left, the year of issuance on the right, and the word “LIBERTY” arches over the image.
The reverse design showcases a flying Bald Eagle overlapping the sun's rays. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the coin’s face value of “TWENTY DOLLARS” are on top.
The 1907 and early 1908 editions are distinct from later versions because they do not feature the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the reverse side. This motto was only added in mid-1908, and the coins without it are now referred to as "No Motto" Saint Gaudens Double Eagles.
An NGC/PCGS MS-65+ Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) and PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Services) are independent third-party services that appraise and grade coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter, apart from sovereign mints.
For both, an MS-65+ graded coin is slightly better than an MS-65 one. MS-65 coin means that the analyzed coin has the same format as a business coin that still displays high-quality luster despite its aged mintage. Minor contact marks and scatters may be noticeable, but the coin has an overall quality above the average.
