NGC MS-64 1932 $10 Indian Head Eagle Gold Coin

The Indian Head Eagle Gold Coin was the official $10 circulation coin in the US from 1907 to 1919, but the US Mint irregularly struck it until 1933.

1932 was the last year the US Mint issued gold coins freely before the US was taken off the gold standard.

It was also the year the $10 Indian Head Eagle Coin had its highest-ever mintage, with 4,463,000 units, exclusively issued from the Philadelphia Mint, one of the US Mint branches. However, due to a Presidential decree in 1933, many of these coins were confiscated and melted down in an attempt to control the rising gold prices during the Great Depression. That significantly reduced the availability of these coins.

This coin contains .48375 oz of actual gold content and a face value of $10, which still holds legal tender status.

Today, SD Bullion proudly offers 1932 $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coins, sealed in NGC slabs and certified as MS-64 samples.

The Design

Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ obverse design portrays Lady Liberty wearing a headdress made of feathers engraved with the word “LIBERTY,” representing the Native American heritage. It also contains the year of mintage inscribed beneath Liberty’s image.

The Reverse depicts a bald eagle standing on an arrow wrapped around an olive branch. The image is supplemented by the mottos “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM," the nation’s name, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the coin’s face value of “TEN DOLLARS.”

An NGC MS-64 coin

NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, referring to coins issued in the same format as a business circulation coin. 64 is the grade given to coins with average luster, noticeable, light scuff marks, or defects but with attractive overall quality.
