Gold Aurum 24k Utah 2 Goldback Note - New
Utah was the first American state to join the GoldBack Note project released by the Aurum Mint in 2019 under the Utah Legal Tender Act.
GoldBack notes are voluntary forms of local currency crafted from 24-karat gold and accepted by participating merchants in select U.S. states. While they are not federally recognized as legal tender, their value is tied to their gold content and the confidence of vendors who choose to accept them.
Offering refreshed designs, the GoldBack Note Series introduces the latest Utah Collection.
Now available at SD Bullion, the Utah 2 Goldback Note Type 2 includes 1/500 troy oz of 24k gold.

The Design
It is standard for all Goldback Notes designs to showcase a feminine figure symbolizing a particular virtue.
The design portrays “Gratia”, the personification of grace, inspired by Utah’s historic Miracle of the Gulls. The scene recalls the spring of 1848, when California gulls arrived in the Salt Lake Valley during a devastating cricket infestation, helping protect the pioneers’ crops and providing relief during a difficult period.
Gratia gazes upward with gratitude as hidden UV details reveal rays of sunlight illuminating her face. California gulls surround her, carrying crickets in their beaks as symbols of unexpected deliverance. A sod-roof cabin in the background represents the resourcefulness of early settlers, who adapted to limited building materials by using the land around them.
The “2” denomination is displayed near “UTAH GOLDBACKS,” with the gold weight and content noted at the bottom, beneath the sentence “The Lord will provide.” — Genesis 22:14.
The note displays design elements on the obverse, leaving the reverse blank and mirroring only those on the obverse.
Goldback Notes
A Goldback, also known as a foil note, is a voluntary regional currency used for trade and payment in select areas of the United States.
While not considered legal tender, Goldbacks hold intrinsic value as bullion, thanks to the layer of 24-karat gold carefully embedded within a durable polymer film.
Resembling traditional paper money in shape, each note’s denomination, ranging from 1/4 to 100, corresponds directly to the precise amount of gold it contains, from 1/4000th troy ounce up to 1/10th troy ounce.
