The obverse depicts the Genius, the Guardian Angel, standing at a column as she inscribes on the French constitution while a French rooster, a national symbol, looks on. The design includes the engraving “REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE.”
The reverse features the coin’s face value of 20 Francs and the year of issuance encircled by an oak leaf wreath. The inscription on the outer rim refers to the French Revolution slogan “LIBERTE.EGALITE.FRATERNITE,” which translates to Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity.
