2025-W PCGS PR-70 First Strike 1 oz American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin
The American Liberty Gold Coin made history as the first U.S. gold coin struck in 24-karat gold with a high-relief finish. Issued by the U.S. Mint in 2015, it also carries the highest denomination ever assigned to an American gold coin.
Its modern design, created by artists from the U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program, reimagines Lady Liberty and the bald eagle, with the high-relief strike adding exceptional depth and intricate detail.
These specific coins were produced at the West Point Mint, identified by the “W” mint mark. They were purchased directly from the U.S. Mint within 30 days of release and later authenticated and graded by PCGS.
SD Bullion sells 2025-W 1 oz American Liberty High Relief Gold Coins graded by PCGS as PR-70 First Strike samples.

The Design
The obverse, designed by Justin Kunz, depicts a youthful Lady Liberty crowned with a wreath, holding a torch in one hand and a pole bearing the American flag in the other.
The design is also inscribed with “LIBERTY, ” the year of issue, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The reverse, designed by Paul C. Balan, showcases a Bald Eagle in mid-flight, clutching an olive branch in its talons.
The engravings on this side read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the West Point “W” mint mark, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD,” and “ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS.”
Thanks to its high-relief strike, the design rises with striking height and depth, extending beyond the coin’s rim.
A PCGS PR-70 “First Strike” Coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
PCGS calls “First Strike” the coins purchased from their original mint within 30 days of the official release, and submitted to PCGS appraisal.
PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes that exhibits mirror-like surfaces contrasting with frosted design elements. 70 is the highest grade on the scale attributed to flawless coins.
