The U.S. Mint starts an exciting era for collectors with a vibrant line of gold coins and silver medals honoring some of DC’s most celebrated superheroes. 

Created in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program pays homage to comic book art as a distinctly American cultural touchstone.

This remarkable collection highlights legendary characters whose stories embody the nation’s core principles and values. Leading the debut release is Superman™ alongside his everyday persona, Clark Kent™, lasting icons of courage, resilience, and unwavering hope.

This medal, in particular, is a 1 oz silver sample, produced at the Philadelphia Mint, in .999 fine silver. It was purchased from the US Mint on the first day of their official release and submitted for PCGS grading.

The Design

The artwork was created by Joseph Menna, once an illustrator for DC and now the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver, whose initials are included in the design.

The obverse showcases a powerful depiction of Superman™ in flight above the Kent family farm. The bright sun illuminates the fields where Clark Kent™ grew up, representing the supportive environment of his youth and the cosmic energy that fuels his remarkable abilities. The inscription “LIBERTY” accompanies the imagery.

The reverse presents young Clark Kent standing beside his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, on their rural property. Clark looks skyward as a plane passes overhead, while Jonathan watches him with quiet admiration. The inscriptions “SUPERMAN” and “HOPE AND STRENGTH” complete the artwork, reflecting the core themes of the hero’s story.

A PCGS MS-70 “First Day of Issue” Sample 

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.

According to PCGS, a “First Day of Issue” coin is one purchased from its original mint on the very first day it was publicly available for purchase.

MS or Mint State refers to an uncirculated coin in the same format as a business circulation sample. Grade 70 is attributed to flawless coins.
