The Design

The obverse showcases the timeless “Walking Liberty” design by Adolph A. Weinman, first introduced in 1916. Lady Liberty strides toward the rising sun with the American flag flowing around her, an olive branch in her left arm and her right hand outstretched in welcome. The design includes the year of issue, “LIBERTY,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”—now joined by the distinct Eagle Privy Mark, set near the motto.

On the reverse, artist Emily Damstra’s powerful Bald Eagle clutches an oak branch as it descends with open wings. The scene is encircled by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
