The reverse design portrays a Ram in a frontal close-up with sweet-staring eyes and massive horns.

The accompanying inscriptions describe the coin's weight of “ONE TROY OUNCE,” purity levels of “.9999,” and metal content of “FINE GOLD.” The hidden message is micro-engraved in its horn.

The obverse displays the Coat of Arms of Niue, the self-governed country associated with New Zealand, which provides these coins with legal tender status.
