The Mexican Libertad Series is a comprehensive series comprising silver and gold coins of varied weights and finishes. It ranges from tiny 1/20 oz coins to heavy Kilocoins in bullion, proof, or reverse-proof finishes.
This coin, in particular, weighs 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine gold and is enhanced by a distinct Reverse-Proof finish that highlights the most intricate elements of the series’ standard design.
At SD Bullion, you can acquire the 2024 1 oz Gold Libertad Reverse-Proof Coin, purchased from the Mexican Mint on day #1 of their official release and certified by PCGS as a PR-70 coin.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as a PR-70 coin by PCGS;
- Reverse proof coin;
- Contains 1 oz of .999 fine gold;
- Issued by the Mexican Mint;
- Purchased on day #1 of its official release;
- Hold legal tender status guaranteed by the Bank of Mexico;
- The reverse displays the Angel of Victory;
- The obverse showcases eleven Coat of Arms of Mexico.
The Design
The Centenario of Mexican Independence, achieved in 1821, is the motif of the Libertad series.
The obverse of the 1 oz coin displays eleven versions of the national seal. The current seal, surrounded by the words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS,” is the central image, while the others encircling it are previous versions.
All seals depict an eagle defeating a rattlesnake as a standard element, symbolizing Mexico's triumph over foreign dominance.
The reverse portrays Victoria, the Roman goddess of Victory who personifies the free nation that became a 17-foot statue atop the monument in Mexico City.
The inscriptions describe the coin’s weight, metal content, year of issuance, and purity: “1 ONZA ORO PURO,” “2024,” and “LEY .999.” The "M" mint mark aside indicates the Mexican Mint issuance.

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service works apart from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70 depending on their condition.
PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are frosted, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
According to PCGS, a “First Day of Issue” is a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day it was made publicly available.
