The Design
The 1/2 oz Gold Libertad and its smaller counterparts display only the current Mexican Coat of Arms on the obverse side.
In the image, the Eagle perched on a cactus represents Mexico, and the defeated rattlesnake symbolizes the Spanish domination that ceased with the independence movement. The engravings “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” encircle the image.
On the reverse, the Winged Victory reproduces the most famous monument of Mexican Independence. It portrays a feminine angel carrying a wreath of laurels and broken chains as a symbol of freedom.
The coin’s essential information is inscribed as “1/2 ONZA ORO PURO, “2024,” and “LEY .999,” and the “M” on the right stands for the mintmark.
An NGC PF-70 First Day of Issue coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company works apart from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70 depending on their condition.
According to NGC, a “First Day of Issue” is a coin purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to NGC appraisal.
PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are frosted, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
