The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty exhibits a radiant crown, with the engravings “LIBERTY” arching over her, as designed by artist Anthony de Francisci in 1921.

A peaceful bald eagle rests on a rock, holding an olive branch in its talon on the reverse side. 

The accompanying inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) works independently from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release.
