2024 NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue Peace Dollar Silver Coin

The Peace Silver Dollar is one of the most renowned silver coins of the 20th century. The US Mint produced these coins to replace the Morgan Silver Dollars, minting them between 1921 and 1928 and again from 1934 to 1935.

These coins symbolize the peaceful era following World War I and acknowledge the nation's international influence.

In 2021, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Peace Silver Dollar, the US Mint issued a commemorative edition. Production was halted in 2022 due to a shortage of silver blanks but resumed in 2023.

The Design

The obverse, designed by artist Anthony de Francisci in 1921, features Liberty wearing a radiant crown, with the engravings “LIBERTY” arching over her, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” flanking her neck, and the year of issuance at the bottom.

The reverse showcases a peaceful bald eagle resting on a rock, holding an olive branch in its talon. The inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”

An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue Coin 

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) works independently from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release.
