2024 NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue Morgan Dollar Silver Coin

Morgan Silver Dollars are the official dollar coins that circulated in the US from 1878 to 1904 and in 1921.

They were named after the US Chief Engraver George T. Morgan and represented America's westward expansion and industrial growth during the 19th century.

The US Mint celebrated the landmark 100th anniversary of the last issuance of Morgan Silver Dollars with a commemorative bullion version in 2021. Due to a shortage of silver blanks in 2022, production of these coins was halted but resumed in 2023 and 2024.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty’s bust, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." 

It includes the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the year of issuance. 

The reverse showcases a Bald Eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. 

The engravings "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR" complete the design.

An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue Coin 

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company), which operates independently of sovereign mints, appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release.
