Celebrating a landmark in American coinage history, the US Mint strikes the 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal, a faithful reproduction of the first dollar coin issued by the US Mint.

First issued on October 15, 1794, the original U.S. dollar coin became known as the Flowing Hair dollar, named for its captivating image of Lady Liberty on the obverse. 

To mark the 230th anniversary, the U.S. Mint has struck 75,000 Flowing Hair Silver Medals, featuring faithful modern designs of the original obverse and reverse designs, each crafted in 1 Troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver. This new commemorative release was immensely popular and quickly sold out from the US Mint!

Of the 75,000 medals minted, the US Mint struck 1,794 of these medals with a distinct "230" privy mark. The Design

As the original USD 1 Flowing Hair coin, the obverse portrays Lady Liberty's right-facing bust with her loose hair. The 15 stars encircling her effigy symbolize the states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794. 

It also includes the inscription "LIBERTY" and an updated "2024" date. The “230” privy mark is on the lower right.

The reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings, the predecessor to the heraldic eagle, surrounded by a laurel wreath and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
