The US Mint celebrates the 230th Anniversary of the first dollar coin issuance in 2024 by striking the Flowing Hair Silver Medal.

This new commemorative release proved so popular from the US Mint, that it quickly sold out!

Released on October 15, 1794, the first US Silver Dollar coin was dubbed the Flowing Hair dollar because of the alluring depiction of Lady Liberty on the obverse.

The US 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal features modern designs of the original obverse and reverse designs in 99.9% silver 1 Troy oz medals.

The Design

The obverse recreates the design of the first U.S. dollar coin, featuring Lady Liberty's right-facing bust with her loose hair. The 15 stars encircling her effigy symbolize the states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794.

It also includes the inscription "LIBERTY" and an updated "2024" date.

The reverse showcases a laurel wreath encircling an eagle with outstretched wings, a precursor to the American heraldic eagle, and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
