2024 NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coin
Mexican Libertads are the oldest coins in the Americas and among the most comprehensive globally. The series' versatility comprises a variety of coin sizes in silver and gold, in bullion, reverse-proof, and proof finishes throughout annual editions.
As the name implies, the series honors Mexican Independence, achieved in 1821, blending history and art to commemorate this significant milestone.
Gold Libertad coins are devoid of denominations. The Central Bank of Mexico ensures its legal tender status based on purity, weight, and the gold spot price.
The 2024 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coin is available at SD Bullion. They were purchased from the Mexican Mint on the first day of their official release and graded as MS-70 samples by NGC.

The Design
The obverse of the 1 oz Gold Libertad displays the eleven Coats of Arms used throughout Mexican history.
The current seal is centralized, encircled by “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS,” and its previous versions are on the border. The common motif of the seals is the Independence effort through the symbolic Eagle defeating the foreign rattlesnake.
On the reverse, the Winged Victory reproduces the 17-foot statue atop the monument dedicated to national independence in Mexico City.
The engravings “1 ONZA ORO PURO,” “2024,” and “LEY .999” indicate the weight, metal content, issuance, and purity levels. The “M” refers to the mintmark.
An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue coin
Coin grading services like NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraise and grade coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, depending on their condition.
According to NGC, “First Day of Issue” corresponds to a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release and submitted to NGC appraisal.
MS means Mint State, referring to coins fabricated with the same shape as a popular business coin that remained uncirculated. 70, the highest grade on the scale, is for a coin with no visible flaws.
