2024 NGC MS-70 Early Release 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin
American Gold Eagles are 22-carat gold bullion coins produced by the US Mint and part of the most successful national coin program. The program offers not only this 1/4 oz coin but also the traditional 1 oz and the fractional sizes 1/2 oz and 1/10 oz.
NGC is one of the most respected coin grading services in the world. These coins are certified MS-70, meaning they are in perfect mint condition, and are also certified as “Early Release,” meaning they come from the first 30 days of production in the US Mint.
Coin Highlights
- Certified and encapsulated by the NGC as an MS-70 coin;
- Selected among those from the first 30 days of release;
- IRAs eligible;
- Contains ¼ oz of .9167 fine gold;
- Bears a $10 face value, backed by the US Government;
- The obverse displays Saint Gaudens’ Lady Liberty;
- The reverse features Jennie Norris’ Eagle design.
The Design
The 2021 new reverse mintage brings a single Bald Eagle in a left-profile close-up, a hooked beak, and a deep staring eye.
The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are vertically lined up. The coin’s information regarding monetary denomination, weight, and metal content is on the bottom, described as “10 DOLLARS” and “¼ OZ FINE GOLD.”
The obverse design reproduces Saint Gaudens’ original creation, issued on the $20 Double Eagle coin. As the sun's rays rise in the background, Lady Liberty walks forward. The march ahead represents the nation’s development, heading to the future, while the torch symbolizes light and the olive branch, peace.
The word “LIBERTY” is on top, the Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the year of mintage is on the lower right.
The Sheldon Grading Scale
Developed in 1949 to establish a standard code for coins based on their condition and authenticity, this scale carries its creator’s name, Dr. Willian Herbert Sheldon. The scale goes from 70 to 1. The highest grade a coin gets, the better its condition.
The NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company is a third-party service recognized worldwide for its accurate evaluation according to the Sheldon Grading Scale.
An MS-70 Coin
MS stands for Mint State. It means a particular coin presents the same condition as initially produced. It has never circulated, the coin has no visible signs of wear, tear, scratching, or contact with other pieces.
Therefore, an MS-70 coin is considered a perfect coin.
