2024 3 oz Snow Leopard Colorized Proof Silver Coin

The Wild Mongolia Series from the CIT showcases a different native animal at each annual strike of uniquely crafted silver coins.

The previous editions of the series have featured the Majestic Eagle, the Mystic Wolf, the Magnificent Argali, and the Saker Falcon.

The fifth release of the series presents the Snow Leopard, a large feline that lives in the mountain ranges and is considered a vulnerable species because of human development in their natural habitats.

In addition to a standard one-ounce coin, the series features coins weighing 3 Troy oz of 99.99% pure silver bullion, with an equal-colored design and a proof finish.

The Design

The obverse design features the Bank of Mongolia Coat of Arms, imprinted in high relief inside an octagon, and the claw of the Snow Leopard clutching a tree trunk is on the left side.

The seal is accompanied by engravings regarding the coin’s face value, metal content, purity, and weight, reading “2000 Torpor” and “MONGOLIA, 3 OZ .9999 SILVER.” The geometric pattern in the background hides the year of issuance. 

The reverse design is colored, giving the Snow Leopard portrait a realistic facial depiction, which gets even more vivid because of the coin’s high relief. 

The collection’s trademark is imprinting a full-length ghosted depiction of the chosen animal. Therefore, the Snow Leopard’s ghosted depiction in the background features its attack position.

Because it is a proof coin, the surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which enhances the glowing colors of the reverse design and makes an interesting contrast with the matte elements of the obverse.
