The Design
The obverse depicts King Charles III’s effigy designed by Martin Jennings encircled by the inscriptions “CHARLES III,” “2 POUNDS,” and “D.G.REX.F.D.,” referring to the coin’s face value. The Latin initials mean “Dei Gracia Rex,” by the Grace of God, King.
The reverse, designed by David Lawrence, showcases the Tudor Dragon protecting the royal shield.
The accompanying engravings inform weight, metal content, fineness, and year of issuance and read “TUDOR DRAGON. 1 oz. FINE GOLD. 999.9. 2024”
The chainmail animation texture in the backdrop works as an extra security feature.
The Tudor Beast Series
The series’ motif is ten beasts that the British royal ancestry seals. Henri VIII, the second Tudor of the dynasty, turned them into stone statues on the Palace Moat’s Bridge and the Royal Mint in bullion coins with modern designs.
The Tudor Dragon is the fifth strike, but the collection also features The Seymour Unicorn, The Bull of Clarence, The Seymour Panther, The Lion of England, the Yale of Beaufort, the Greyhound of Richmond, the Royal Dragon, the Queen's Panther, and the Queen’s Lion.
