The Design

The reverse features the Royal Arms, reinterpreted by artist Timothy Noad. It features a quartered shield representing England (three lions passant guardant), Scotland (a lion rampant), and Ireland (a harp). The shield is flanked by a crowned lion (symbolizing England) on the left and a unicorn (representing Scotland) on the right. Above the shield is a crown. The motto "Dieu et mon droit" (God and my right) is displayed below the shield, emphasizing the divine right of the monarch to rule. Additionally, the Order of the Garter’s motto, "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Shame on him who thinks evil of it), appears on a ribbon around the shield. This emblem is used in the official capacity of the monarch and represents the sovereignty of the UK.

The reverse also contains engravings referring to the coin's year of issue, weight, metal content, and purity, which read “2024,” “1 oz FINE GOLD 9999.” 

The obverse displays King Charles III's portrait, by Martin Jennings, encircled by engravings “CHARLES III,” the coin’s face value of “100 POUNDs, ” and “D.G.REX.F.D” which translates from Latin to “By the grace of God, King.” 

Both sides feature radial lines in the background, enhancing the design and providing additional security against counterfeiting.
