2024 1 Kilo Silver Britannia Coin

Britannia Series is a traditional coin collection worldwide, releasing gold and silver coins of varied sizes annually since its premiere in 1987.

However, the Royal Mint only introduced the first bullion version of the Kilo Silver Britannia in 2023, initially showcasing the former Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, and then the Type 2 version, depicting the rising King, Charles III.

The Kilo Silver Britannia is the largest sample of the collection. It is legal tender, holds a guaranteed face value of £500, contains 99.9% fine silver, and, like its series counterparts, features four advanced anti-counterfeiting measures that ensure its authenticity.

The Design

The Britannia figure designed on the reverse side features a warrior wearing a Roman helmet, holding a trident, and the Union Jack Shield. On the lower left, in focus, the trident becomes a padlock if you move the coin from side to side. 

A first circle limits the image carrying the micro inscription “Decus et Tutamen,” which means “an ornament and a safeguard.” 

The inscriptions on the outer rim, “‘BRITANNIA’ 2024’ 1 KILO’ 999’ FINE’ SILVER,’” refer to the series, issuance, weight, purity, and metal content.

Martin Jennings’ depiction of King Charles III features the obverse side, surrounded by the Latin inscription “CHARLES III - D - G - REX - F - D - 500 POUNDS,” which translates to ‘Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,’ and the coin’s face value.
