2024 1/25 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin
IN 2014, the Austrian Mint celebrated 25 years of the Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins with the release of the 1/25 oz Gold Philharmonic.
Despite being a tiny piece, the 1/25 oz Gold Philharmonic follows in its counterparts' footsteps: same purity levels and designs.
It may also be interesting for those working on a strict budget but still willing to invest in gold coins to diversify their investment portfolios.
Since they are smaller, they tend to have lower prices and premiums compared to heavier coins, making them a more affordable option and still a valuable input to any investment portfolio.

The Design
Despite being a commemorative coin, the 1/25 oz Gold Philharmonic does not carry any particular mark in its design that resembles the anniversary, which remains the standard design of the whole series.
The obverse showcases a pipe organ that resembles the one from the Musikverein, the Golden Hall of Vienna. The original organ and part of the building suffered severe damage during WWII, making the reconstruction of both a national symbol.
The engravings on this side are in German and refer to the country’s name, the coin’s issuance, weight, metal content, fineness, and face value.
The reverse presents eight elementary instruments that compose an orchestra. Violins, a cello, the Viennese horn, a bassoon, a harp, and the Vienna Orchestra’s name arches over the image.
The Vienna Orchestra
One of the most renowned orchestras worldwide, the origin of the Vienna Philharmonics dates back to approximately 1842. Otto Nicolai, a German Maestro, founded the Philharmonic Academy to become an independent institution headed by the members’ democratic decisions.
Being an orchestra member demands a lot from the candidate, who should undergo a rigid selection process, including skills evaluations and the acceptance of the other members.
Since 1941, every January 1st, the Vienna New Year’s Concert joins classical music fans to appreciate a special presentation dedicated to the Strauss family.
