The Design

The 2024 Dragon design features this mystic creature with a twisted body, long tail, and sharp paws surrounded by waves and fog. 

On the right, in front of the Dragon’s muzzle, there is a corresponding Chinese symbol and the inscription “DRAGON 2024.” On the left, “P125” stands for the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.

The reverse showcases Queen Elizabeth II wearing the State Diadem crown in a right-profile bust, depicted by artist Jody Clark in 1995. 

Inscriptions encircle the Queen’s effigy and read: “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” and “AUSTRALIA” on top and “1/2 oz 9999 Au” and “50 DOLLARS” on the bottom rim. They refer to the Queen’s name and reigning period, the coin’s origin, weight, fineness, metal content, and face value.

The Year of the Dragon

The Chinese Astrological Signs change annually. Therefore, each year is governed by a particular sign, which only returns after twelve years.

Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, its previous occurrences happened in 2012, 2000, 1988, and so on.

The Dragon is the fifth zodiac sign on the list, and it is expected to bring good fortune and prosperity to 2024.
