2022 NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin - Edmund C. Moy Label with Black Core
The US Mint has earned credibility and recognition in the bullion market due to its long-standing history of producing high-quality products. This reputation contributed to the success of the American Eagle Program, which was launched in 1986 with the release of the American Gold Eagle Coin.
The American Gold Eagle Series features 22k gold coins in different sizes and finishes, including the 1/4 oz Gold Eagle coin.
These 1/4 oz Gold Eagles, in particular, were purchased from the US Mint on the very first day of the official release. They were graded as MS-70 coins and sealed by NGC in the exclusive Edmund C. Moy label.
Edmund C. Moy served as the 38th Director of the US Mint from 2006 to 2011, earning recognition as the Father of the Modern Coin Era for his transformative impact on US Mint coinage. Under his visionary leadership, Moy introduced innovative designs and oversaw the creation of iconic series such as the 24k Gold Buffalo and the revered 2009 Ultra High Relief coin. Additionally, his initiatives resulted in unprecedented minting of gold and silver coins, sparking widespread global interest in modern U.S. Coins.
Today, SD Bullion has 2022 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in stock, graded as MS-70 First Day of Issue coins and sealed by NGC in the exclusive Edmund C. Moy Label with Black Core.

The Design
The introduction of a new reverse design marked the program’s 35th anniversary in 2021. Jennie Norris depicted a majestic eagle in a left-profile close-up, highlighting its hooked beak and intense gaze.
The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are arranged vertically, while the bottom displays the face value, weight, and metal content, reading “10 DOLLARS” and “1/4 OZ FINE GOLD.”
The obverse retained Saint-Gaudens’ original design, featuring Lady Liberty walking forward with rays of sunlight behind her, the word “LIBERTY” above, and the Capitol Building to her lower left.
Her forward march symbolizes the nation’s pursuit of a bright and peaceful future. The mintage year is placed on the lower right.
An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue coin
NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company works independently from sovereign mints and appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
For NGC, a “First Day of Issue” is a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day it was made publicly available.
MS or Mint State describes a coin with the same format as a business circulation one that remained uncirculated. 70 is the grade given to coins with no visible flaws.
