Buy 2022 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins
Arguably one of the most successful gold bullion coin programs in the world. The American Gold Eagle coins are an expected release every year. The United States Mint produces these gold coins since 1986, along with the American Silver Eagle. The American Eagle bullion coin program is a testament of the US Mint experience in precious metal refining.
- Official gold bullion coin of the United States since 1986;
- Guaranteed to contain a true gold content of .999 pure 1/2 troy ounce in BU condition;
- Obverse featuring iconic Saint-Gaudens design of Lady Liberty;
- Reverse portraying the new bald eagle’s head design, introduced in the 2021 American Gold Eagle Type 2;
- New security feature on the reeded edge;
- Face value of $25 backed by the US Government.
This is the second issue of the new reverse design by graphic designer Jennie Norris. The artist depicted a brilliant head of a bald eagle, with an earnest stare ahead, as to demonstrate the years of experience, passed down from generation to generation of this majestic animal. The inscriptions on the reverse include the country’s name “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” right below. Under the eagle’s neck feathers, are the artist's initials, “JN”.
As it has been since the inception of the program, the obverse features a modified version of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty design, first used on the $20 Double Eagle coin, which was discontinued back in 1933. The Goddess personifies the ideals of freedom and free thought from the Founding Fathers. Her gowns are blowing with the wind, as she holds a lit torch on one hand, and an olive branch on the other. The Capitol Building is seen on the horizon, as rays of sunlight emblazon the scene.
With the new reverse design, the United States Mint also announced a new security feature for the coins, a reeded edge variation. In essence, a small chip of the reeded series gets removed. It is a step forward the US Mint has taken against counterfeiting.
The US Mint produces ½ oz American Gold Eagle coins with an alloy of 22-karat gold (.9167 fine). That means they add small amounts of copper and silver to improve the coin’s resistance and hardness. Even so, the silver and copper are added on top of the full ½ troy ounce of pure gold, meaning this coin is slightly heavier and larger than similar coins on the market, such as the ½ Gold Maple Leaf coin. It has a thickness of 2.24 mm and a diameter of 27 mm.
American Gold Eagle Series
The American Gold Eagle bullion coin program started in 1986 with a gold and silver coin. It quickly became one of the most successful bullion coin programs in the world. Investors flock to these coins as soon as they are released every year. That makes these coins a highly liquid option when it comes to gold bullion investment.
The American Gold Eagle series also includes a 1 troy ounce of gold version, and other two fractional sizes: ¼ troy ounce, with a face value of $10, and 1/10 troy ounce, with a face value of $5. The US Mint also releases the American Platinum Eagle every year since 1997, and a Palladium version since 2017.
