2021 NGC PF-70 First Day of Issue 2 oz Canadian Maple Leaf Super Incuse Reverse Proof Gold Coin
The Royal Canadian Mint is continually innovating to deliver Gold Maple Leaf coins with an enhanced design to appeal to the numismatic market.
These 2021 Maple Leaf gold coins, weighing 2 Troy oz and .9999 pure gold, feature intricate design elements.
In addition to the reverse-proof finish, they showcase the famous Walter Ott Maple Leaf Design with super-incused engravings that sit 1.5 mm below the coin’s surface, which means nearly 40% of the coin's gauge.
They were also purchased from the Royal Canadian Mint on the first day of their official release and submitted to NGC certification.
Today, SD Bullion sells 2021 2 oz Canadian Maple Leaf Super Incuse Reverse Proof Gold Coins housed in NGC slabs and graded as PF-70 First Day of Issue.

The Design
The obverse displays Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the denomination “200 DOLLARS” and the year of issue, “2021.”
On the reverse, Walter Ott’s renowned sugar maple leaf design is recreated, remaining unchanged since its debut on the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin in 1979. This design is struck using Super Incuse technology, creating an impressive incuse depth of 1.5 millimeters.
Additional inscriptions include “CANADA,” “FINE GOLD 2 OZ OR PUR,” the purity mark “9999,” and a special maple leaf privy bearing the number “25,” commemorating the 25th anniversary of Canada’s iconic maple tree (Acer).
An NGC PF-70 “First Day of Issue” Coin
Like other third-party services, NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
For NGC, a “First Day of Issue” coin is a sample purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.
PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are matte, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved on it. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
