2021 NGC MS-70 First Releases 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin (Type 2) - Eagle Label
2021 marks the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program. To celebrate this landmark, the US Mint updated the Gold Eagle reverse design with a unique depiction of the Bald Eagle designed by artist Jennie Norris.
American Gold Eagles are made from 22-karat gold and contain a full troy ounce of gold. That makes them a little heavier than other popular gold coins, like the Canadian Maple Leaf or the South African Gold Krugerrand.
Today, you can acquire 2021 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins (Type 2) at SD Bullion, purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release. They were graded as MS-70 coins and sealed in NGC slabs with the exclusive Eagle Label.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-70 coin by the NGC;
- Sealed in NGC Eagle Label;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Contains 1 oz of actual gold content (.9167);
- Purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of the official release;
- With anti-counterfeiting reeded edges;
- Holds a USD 50 face value and legal tender status;
- The obverse displays Lady Liberty;
- The reverse features a Bald Eagle.
The Design
The obverse features Lady Liberty marching forward carrying a torch and an olive branch. This symbol represents the nation's progress toward peace and enlightenment.
The obverse also imprints the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year.
The new reverse design, created by Jennie Norries to celebrate the series' 35th anniversary, displays the Eagle with a frontal close-up and a penetrating gaze.
It includes the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "IN GOD WE TRUST," its face value of 50 DOLLARS, weight, and metal content as "1 OZ. FINE GOLD."
An NGC MS-70 First Releases coin
NGC, or Numismatic Guaranty Company, is a renowned third-party grading service that appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
For NGC, “First Releases” refer to coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of their official release and taken to its appraisal.
MS or Mint State describes a coin with the same format as a business circulation one that remained uncirculated. 70 is the grade given to coins with no visible flaws.
