2021 NGC MS-70 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coin - John Mercanti Label
In 2021, the American Eagle program celebrated its 35th Anniversary since the first release of Silver and Gold Eagle coins in the bullion and numismatic market.
Paying tribute to this milestone, the US Mint provided American Gold Eagles with a new reverse design created by artist Jennie Norris.
These 1/4 oz Gold Eagles, in particular, were graded as MS-70 coins and sealed by NGC in the exclusive John Mercanti label.
John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.
Today, SD Bullion proudly offers 2021 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins, certified by NGC as perfect MS-70 coins and sealed with the honorable John Mercanti Label.

Saint-Gaudens’ original obverse design was maintained. It features Lady Liberty walking forward with rays of sunlight behind her, the word “LIBERTY” above, and the Capitol Building to her lower left.
Her forward march represents the nation’s pursuit of a bright and peaceful future. The mintage year is placed on the lower right.
An NGC MS-70 coin
NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company works independently from sovereign mints and appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
MS or Mint State describes a coin with the same format as a business circulation one that remained uncirculated. 70 is the grade given to coins with no visible flaws.
