Honoring the monkey because 2016 is the Year of the Monkey according to the Chinese calendar, this coin’s reverse features the latest design from one of Australia’s premier mints.


The Perth Mint started the Australian Lunar Series to honor the Chinese Zodiac with annual gold and silver coin releases. With a long and illustrious history, the Perth Mint has been operating since 1899. Over a century of minting excellent precious metals products has made it one of the most trusted and treasured mints in the precious metals market.


Known for meticulously crafted silver coins, each of the BU coins in this Lunar Series released in various weights and precious metals. Each of these particular coins contains ½ troy ounces of 0.999 pure silver, in addition to a $0.50 (AUD) face value.
Reverses of these coins make each release unique – this silver coin displays an adult and baby monkey sitting atop a peach tree, while the child clutches onto a peach in its hand. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the words ‘Year of the Monkey’ are imprinted on this side as well.
