2014 PCGS MS-69 DMPL First Strike 5 oz America The Beautiful Silver 5-Coin Set

The America The Beautiful Program debuted in 2010 in the numismatic realm. In addition to the circulating quarters, the US Mint aimed to release five silver coins annually weighing 5 Troy ounces of 99.9% pure silver, showcasing iconic American parks, monuments, and forests.

The series followed that pace until 2021, accounting for 56 silver coins.

In 2014, the American sites honored in the series were The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Shenandoah National Park, the Arches National Park, the Great Sand Dunes National Park, and the Everglades National Park.

SD Bullion offers the 2014 America The Beautiful Silver 5-Coin Set by gathering these five alluring silver coins. They were purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of their official release and individually graded by PCGS as MS-69 DMPL coins.

Product Highlights

  • The set contains five silver coins from the America The Beautiful 2014 edition;
  • All coins were evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-69 DMPL coin by PCGS;
  • Deep-Proof-like appearance;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Purchased within the first 30 days of their official release;
  • Each coin contains 5 oz of .999 fine silver, accounting for 25 oz of silver;
  • Holds a USD 0.25 face value and legal tender status;
  • The standard obverse design features George Washington’s bust;
  • The reverse features each national park from the 2014 edition.

The Obverse Design

The standard obverse design displays George Washington's bust, signed by John Flanagan in 1932. This design is inspired by the official effigy of the former President created by William Cousins in 1786.

The design also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The Great Smoky Mountains Reverse Design

It showcases a historic log cabin within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, surrounded by lush green forests and watched by a circling hawk.

Inscriptions on this side read “GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS,” “TENNESSEE,” “2014,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

The Shenandoah Reverse Design

It shows a day hiker viewing from the Little Stony Man summit, encircled by "SHENANDOAH," "VIRGINIA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "2014."

The Arches Reverse Design

The coin displays Delicate Arch, a solitary 65-foot natural arch celebrated as Utah's most famous landmark.

This arch has been depicted on postage stamps and license plates and was a prominent feature during the Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics, set against the backdrop of the La Sal Mountains.

The words "ARCHES," "UTAH," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "2014" surround the image.

The Great Sand Dunes Reverse Design

It features what seems to be a father and his son next to a river, with the sand dunes as a backdrop. The image is surrounded by the engravings "GREAT SAND DUNES," "COLORADO," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and “2014.”

The Everglades Reverse Design

It depicts an anhinga with wings spread on a willow tree, with a roseate spoonbill visible in the mid-ground. Both birds are commonly found throughout Everglades National Park.

On this side, inscriptions read “EVERGLADES,” “FLORIDA,” “2014,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

A PCGS MS-69 DMPL “First Strikes” Coin

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) works independently of sovereign mints. It evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.

PCGS calls “First Strikes” the coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of the official release and submitted to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. Grade 69 is attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.

According to PCGS, DMPL stands for Deep Mirror Proof-Like and refers to coins struck for circulation but with unusual mirror-like fields and frosted design details that are very similar to Proof coins.
