2013-W NGC MS-70 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin

2013-W NGC MS-70 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin
The premiere US Gold Eagle from the American Eagle Program earned global attention due to its high gold purity and iconic patriotic designs by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Miley Busiek.
In the same year, 1986, the US Mint launched fractional denominations and different finishes for the 1 oz Gold Eagle, including a burnished sample.
These Burnished Gold Eagles, particularly, carry the “W” mint mark, identifying the West Point branch as the mint that issued them.

It also features the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year. The “W” mint mark is on the right.
On the reverse, Miley Busiek displays a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male perches their nest.
The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are complemented by “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS” describing weight, metal content, and face value.
Burnished Coin
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
An NGC MS-70 Coin
Third-party grading services like NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) use the Sheldon Grading Scale to evaluate and attribute grades to coins and other numismatic items.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
