2010 PCGS MS-69 PL First Strikes 5 oz America the Beautiful Grand Canyon Silver Coin - John Mercanti Label

The America The Beautiful Quarter Program is dedicated to showcasing America's most iconic sites, recognized as national preservation areas due to their natural or historical importance.

From 2010 to 2021, the program issued five silver coins each year, each weighing 5 Troy ounces and bearing a face value of 25 cents.

The Grand Canyon Silver Coin was the fourth coin released in 2010 and the fourth in the series overall. The Grand Canyon in Arizona, designated a national site in 1893, spans 277 river miles, reaches up to 18 miles wide, and descends a mile deep, offering spectacular views.

These coins, in particular, exhibit a proof-like appearance despite being silver bullion coins. They were purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release and sealed in a PCGS slab with an exclusive John Mercanti Label.

John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.

At SD Bullion, you can find the 2010 5 oz America The Beautiful Grand Canyon Silver Coin, graded as an MS-69 PL “First Strikes” coin, sealed in PCGS slabs with the Exclusive John Mercanti Label.

The reverse side depicts the granaries above the Nankoweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River, used for storing food and seeds between 1050 and 1150 A.D.

This side includes the inscriptions "GRAND CANYON," "ARIZONA," "2010," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

A PCGS MS-69 PL “First Strikes” Coin

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) is recognized worldwide for evaluating and grading coins with the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.

PL refers to a Proof-like finish, describing coins that exhibit mirrored fields that resemble Proof coins but are actually bullion coins.

PCGS calls “First Strikes” the coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of the official release and submitted to its appraisal.
