2010 PCGS MS-69 DMPL 5 oz America The Beautiful Mount Hood Silver Coin - John Mercanti Label
In 2010, the America The Beautiful collection made its debut. The US Mint released five silver coins, each weighing 5 Troy ounces, highlighting America's natural beauty and historical heritage.
The fifth coin issued in 2010, and the fifth in the series, was the Mount Hood Silver Coin.
Located in Oregon, Mount Hood National Forest became a national site in 1893. The forest stretches southward from the Columbia River Gorge, encompassing over 60 miles of mountains, lakes, and streams until it reaches the Olallie Scenic Area. Notable landmarks within the forest include the Timberline Lodge, a national historic landmark, and the Clackamas Wild and Scenic River.
John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.
