2009 (MMIX) PCGS MS-70 Ultra High Relief $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin - Gold Foil Label
The $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is widely regarded as one of the most iconic gold coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint.
It was first issued in 1907 during President Theodore Roosevelt’s administration and created for everyday use. With a face value of $20, each coin contained 0.9675 Troy oz of gold and remained in production until 1933, when the Great Depression led to major changes in U.S. monetary policy.
In 2009, the U.S. Mint reintroduced the Double Eagle as a special collector’s item. This modern edition was crafted from pure 24-karat gold and featured an Ultra High Relief design, highlighting the coin’s artistic beauty and historic legacy.
Today, SD Bullion offers the 2009 (MMIX) $20 Double Eagle Ultra High Relief Coin, graded as an MS-70 coin, and sealed with a PCGS Gold Foil Label.

The Design
The obverse reproduces Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Double Eagle design, which is also imprinted on American Gold Eagle coins.
It portrays Lady Liberty on a march to the future, representing national progress, with a torch and an olive branch for enlightenment and peace. The sun's rays are rising in the background.
The design also features the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY”, the year of issuance in Roman letters, and the stars encircling the whole design, representing the states.
The reverse depicts a flying Bald Eagle above the sun. The inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWENTY DOLLARS.”
The 2009 Edition
In the 2009 edition, the original Saint-Gaudens’ design was digitally mapped and imprinted in ultra-high relief. This created a 3-D effect on the design elements, making the most intricate details even more noticeable and surpassing the coin’s edges.
Some design elements were also included. The year of issuance in Roman letters reflects the year of mintage (2009), four stars were added to complete the current 50 states, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is now at the bottom of the reverse design.
