The Royal Canadian Mint has played a pivotal role in the bullion market. It was the first refinery to use 99.99% pure gold to mint coins and, once more, the first to achieve 99.999% of fineness in 1998.
Gold Maple Leaf Coins are one of the gold coins struck by the Royal Mint with 99.999% pure gold, combining this exceptional purity with the alluring artistry of the Maple Leaf Series.

The Design
The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, leader of the British Commonwealth, stamps the coin’s obverse side, as designed by Susana Blunt. Along with the portrait, the inscriptions read “ELIZABETH II,” “200 DOLLARS,” and the year of issuance.
The reverse depicts a sugar maple leaf, the national symbol. The inscriptions referring to the coin’s information are in English and French, as both languages are official in Canada. They read: “CANADA,” “99999,” “FINE GOLD,” “1 OZ,” and “OR PUR,” standing for fineness, metal content, and weight.
Instead of the usual radial lines, the background of this coin exhibits an intricate mesh design.
