The Design
The reverse depicts the American Bison, whose left-side upstanding portrait resembles a Buffalo - hence the coin’s moniker.
The image is accompanied by the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on top.
The other motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is near the animal’s muzzle. Beneath the image, “$50,” “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD” refers to the coin’s denomination, weight, fineness, and metal content.
The obverse design, which depicts a Native American Chief’s right profile effigy, is a reviewed version of James Earle Fraser’s Indian Head Nickel, issued in 1913.
This bust combines traces from three distinct Native American tribes: the Big Tree, the Iron Tail, and the Two Moons.
The word “LIBERTY” is incused in front of the Native’s forehead, the year of mintage, and an “F,” referring to the artist’s initials, lie on the lower left.
A PCGS MS-69 First Strike Coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins based on their condition, from 70 to 1.
A First Strike coin refers to coins manufactured within the first 30 days of the Mint’s release.
