In 2001, the California Historical Society was granted authorization to reproduce, in a minimal strike of 5,000 units, the 1855 $50 Gold Coin, struck in the US between 1854 and 1855.
These specific samples are made from the original Kellogg & Humbert gold ingots recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Central America.
They contain 1309 grains of .887 fine Gold, corresponding to approximately 2.419 Troy oz of gold.
