It was essential in the Scandinavian Currency Union in 1873, a pioneering gold-backed system that helped deliver nearly four decades of economic stability and cooperation across Northern Europe.

The Kroner coins are closely tied to King Oscar II, who ruled Sweden from 1872 to 1907 and Norway from 1872 to 1905. A cultured and well-educated monarch, he oversaw a period of industrial growth, supported Arctic exploration, and gained international recognition for his diplomatic skill during an era marked by significant Swedish emigration to the United States.

Each 20 Kroner gold coin contains 0.2593 troy ounces of actual gold and is legal tender in Sweden.
