In San Francisco, the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition celebrated the construction of the Panama Canal, but also showed the town's regeneration after a devastating earthquake struck San Francisco in 1906. The majority of the buildings built for the exposition have since been torn down, but the event continues to live on through the Pan-Pac coins and these tribute silver rounds. The Pan-Pac coin 1915-S was created and produced at the San Francisco Mint. The Pan-Pac Octagonal coin was one of many made to mark the opening of the Panama Canal in 1915. Hence, the nickname 'Pan Pac.' There were a large amount of Pan Pacs not sold because of their high $50 face value and only 645 coins remained after the unsold coins were melted for their gold content.

The obverse of these silver rounds feature Athena is represented in a helmet, with a Roman date of MCMXV on a shield that Athena is holding. The words “IN GOD WE TRUST” are above Athena and the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” are minted along the top of the round with “TWO TROY OUNCES” along the bottom. On both sides of the round there is a border of dolphins, which were prevalent in the waters around the Panama Canal during its construction.

The reverse of the Pac-Pac Silver Rounds feature Athena’s owl in the center with the words “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “.999 FINE AG” to the owl’s right. The words “PANAMA-PACIFIC EXPOSITION” are minted at the top of the round with “SAN FRANCISCO” minted along the bottom.
