Robert Morris, chairman of the Senate Committee for Coinage was commissioned to write legislation to establish the US Mint including coin design details on October 31, 1791. Morris employed engravers to create sample coins according to his requirements. Peter Getz of Pennsylvania, was one of his engravers. Both copper and silver samples Getz's prototype were struck, this was done presumably towards the end of 1791. They were to be passed to government officials prior to the introduction of the Morris legislation on December 21, 1791. Thirty to forty silver samples are believed to have been distributed to Senators. Roughly 125 copper samples were also minted and distributed to other congressmen and politicians.

The concept of his image on coinage was dismissed by Washington as being overly monarchical. After the Congress learned of Washington's disagreement with his image on a coin, an amended bill was passed. The main difference of this bill was the replacement of the text requiring a presidential coin portrait on coins with "a device emblematic of liberty." Which effectively meant that there were no chance that Congress was going to accept Getz's provisional design as the model of U.S. coins.

These silver rounds contain 2 troy ounces of 0.999 pure silver bullion and is minted by Intaglio Mint in Denver, CO.

The obverse of the Getz Washington Replica Round features the left-facing profile of George Washington. To his left is “G. WASHINGTON” and to his right is “PRESIDENT I”. Also, the original planned year of production, 1792, is minted below his image.

The reverse of these silver rounds features an old version of the seal of the United States. The seal features a bald eagle holding arrows and an olive branch. Above the eagle are 15 stars along with the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” along the rim of the round. In small letters at the bottom of the round are the words “TWO TROY OUNCES .999 FINE SILVER”.
