Celebrating a century of independence, the Mexican 50 Pesos gold coin is a masterpiece of Mexican coinage. 

The Mexican 50 Pesos gold coin was crafted between 1921 and 1947, featuring a blend of 90% gold and 10% copper, weighing in at 1.2057 ounces. 

Its larger size—37.1mm in diameter—sets it apart from typical one-ounce gold bullion samples, making it a unique gold coin.

The Design

The obverse displays the Mexican Coat of Arms, with an eagle perched on a cactus, symbolizing the nation, and a defeated rattlesnake representing Spanish influence. The words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” encircle the seal.

The reverse is a depiction of the Winged Victory, the angel of independence, with outstretched wings, holding broken chains and a laurel wreath as symbols of freedom. 

The inscriptions inform the coin’s face value, “50 PESOS,” its weight, “37.5 Gr,” metal content “ORO PURO,” the year of independence “1821” on the lower left, and the minting year on the right.
